ARDUINO SWITCH CASE CODESee the code below, then upload it to see how it works before moving to the next step. ARDUINO SWITCH CASE SERIALWatch the serial monitor to see when the program is done. Once it has been held for 5 seconds, we'll move to the next state. In the first case, we'll use a counter to store how long the button has been pressed. We'll use a button to trigger the movement to the next state. Now that we know the basics of a switch statement, we can add in a basic digital input. ProgramCount = 0 //start at the beginning Serial.begin(9600) // initialize serial communication: Int programCount = 0 //variable to move through the program To 10 in the serial monitor using a delay. * This code is to show the basic workings of a switch statement. See the attached code, read the comments, and upload it to see how it works before moving on. The switch statement sits in each case until 1 second has passed, then moves to the next. By watching the serial monitor, you can see the program count to 5 over 5 seconds. There is also a default case, so that you can put a section of the program to happen when the variable you are watching does not match one of the programmed cases.įor the first example, we'll have a passive code. This property makes it very easy to make a program pointer that will move through your code, applying all the appropriate inputs and outputs at the correct time. ![]() The basics of the switch() statement is that you watch a variable, and depending what the variable's value is, a different case in the switch() is activated. Before we dive into the coding, we need to understand what we are working with. ![]()

![]() ![]() When dealing with LCDs, refresh rate is not much of a concern since they use a different technology to draw the image. ?Power users? will tell you they will often sit down at other people?s workstations and notice right away that the refresh rate was too low for comfort. Too low of a refresh rate is a common occurrence and is often a major case of tired eyes and office fatigue. Anything lower than 75Hz and you may notice a flicker of the image as it refreshes. Anything higher than 85Hz generally won?t be noticeable and can also be dangerous to your monitor, as some people have the tendency to push their monitors to refresh rates beyond what they were intended to use. ![]() The highest you?ll need is 85Hz, and some people can tell the difference between a 75Hz and 85Hz refresh rate. Typically, the optimal refresh rate for a CRT monitor is 75Hz, meaning that the image is redrawn 75 times every second. Since there is always movement on your screen, the image needs to be redrawn quite often for it to appear that it is in motion. The refresh rate refers to the number of times that the screen redraws the image every second. The main issue with changing the screen resolution on a CRT monitor is that it affects the refresh rate. The Designtechnica review page shown in 800 x 600 resolution (left) and 1280 x 800 resolution (right). This is normally not a concern with CRT users, because CRTs can be resized to larger or smaller resolutions with no problem. Since each image or part of the screen is made up of a set number of pixels, if you are able to fit more pixels into the same physical area of screen, the image will appear smaller. This is because at higher resolutions, more pixels are viewable. The higher your resolution, the more screen ?real estate? you have and as a result, the smaller things will appear. ![]() If you?re used to CRT monitors, you probably know a little about screen resolution. The last point is an important one, and something that first time LCD or laptop buyers need to understand. However, there also are a few drawbacks to LCDs, including a slower response time, a reduced viewing angle, a higher price and the fact that they have only one optimal resolution. They take up less room than traditional Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors, weigh much less, consume far less power, are much easier to read text on, and let?s face it ? they just look cooler. LCD monitors are some of today?s hottest computing and consumer electronics products, and for good reason. And as a result, consumers who think a bigger screen will be easier on their eyes are often disappointed in their purchase. Unfortunately, the contradiction of today?s Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology is that bigger often means smaller. Whether you?re in the market to replace the hulking CRT that is making your desk sag or you?re planning on purchasing a laptop, some knowledge of LCD technology will help you make a better decision. ![]() ![]() ![]() While stats reset for your pets each rebirth, Growth does not. Medicinally, mandrake was used in small doses as a soporific during surgery, applied topically for joint pain, and to cure depression and mania. Harvesters may have gotten some of the active tropane alkaloids into the bloodstream through an open wound or cut while harvesting, which could have resulted in death. This tradition likely stems from the plant’s toxic traits. The harvester would then hide from a safe distance and cover his ears. To avoid taking damage while harvesting mandrake, harvesters would tie the root to a dog, who could then be lured away with some food to pull the root from the ground. It was thought that once the root was pulled above ground, it would scream so loud it killed anybody within earshot (as portrayed in this Harry Potter scene). The more human-like shape of the root, the more valuable it was.ĭried mandrake root was thought to bring good fortune and wellbeing to those who had one. The unique effects of the mandrake, combined with the very human-like shape of the roots, have resulted in a lot of superstition surrounding the plant. Under no circumstances is this a plant anybody should use for its psychedelic effects. ![]() In higher doses, mandrake is a deadly poison. The hallucinations are so strong and so believable, most people lose the ability to differentiate between what they’re imagining and what’s actually happening in real life. In moderate doses, mandrake is a powerful psychedelic and deliriant. In lower doses, mandrake is a hypnotic - inducing feelings of dizziness, confusion, and sedation. Delerium is the inability to differentiate between what’s real and what’s imagined. Tropane alkaloids are highly toxic and cause drug-induced delirium. These are the same active ingredients in plants like datura and Brugmansia. The root of the mandrake contains a collection of powerful hallucinogenic compounds called tropane alkaloids. Mandrake ( Mandragora spp.) is a small, unassuming plant with a rich history of use as medicine, poison, and mysticism. In this article, we’ll explore some of its history, how it works, and why nobody should ever attempt to trip on mandrake root. Onlookers prevented Caleb’s mother from witnessing the scene. As the boy’s small corpse slid toward the runout pool, everyone began to scream. Waiting for Caleb at the bottom of Verrückt was one of his brothers, along with numerous spectators. His head and body flew out of the raft and landed on the chute. The hoop sliced into his neck, and he was instantly decapitated. Caleb’s head collided with a net and a semicircular metal hoop that arced over the top of the slide. But instead of staying in its fiberglass flume and cresting the hill, the raft flew up into the air. Within a few seconds, the raft reached the bottom of the hill and swooped up the second, 55-foot hill. Suddenly, it was hurtling downward: it must have felt to Caleb as if he’d fallen off a skyscraper. The gate swung open, and the conveyor belt underneath the raft began to move. The moment they reached the bottom, they would shoot up a 55-foot-tall incline-the equivalent of a five-story building-before racing down one last steep slope, finally coming to a stop in a long, water-filled runout. Three riders inside a rubber raft would plummet down a nearly vertical seventeen-story drop at speeds reaching up to 68 miles per hour.
